Every holiday
has its icons....
Christmas has Santa Claus...
Easter has the Easter Bunny...
Valentine’s Day has Cupid...
Origins
Halloween has countless monsters and symbols, but no single character who embodied the spirit of the holiday itself.
That changed in 1996...

SEASON’S GREETINGS
SEASON’S GREETINGS
While studying animation at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts...
...filmmaker Michael Dougherty set out to create an original character who represented Halloween in all its forms: cute but creepy, eerie but charming, playful yet dangerous. Inspired by the ancient traditions of trick-or-treating, jack o’ lanterns, ghosts, witches, scarecrows, and the mysterious folklore surrounding All Hallows’ Eve, Dougherty created Sam: the Soul of Halloween.

SEASON’S GREETINGS
SEASON’S GREETINGS
Sam made his first appearance in “Season’s Greetings," a hand-drawn animated short.
Combining dark humor, classic animation techniques, and a distinctly autumnal atmosphere, the film introduced audiences to a pint-sized supernatural figure who quietly ensured that Halloween’s traditions were honored.
Over the years, “Season’s Greetings" screened at dozens of film festivals, earning honors from the Hamptons International Film Festival, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Chicago Underground Film Festival. The film later made its television debut on MTV and the Sci-Fi Channel, developing a devoted following among horror fans and filmmakers alike. The film’s blend of warmth, whimsy, and macabre storytelling established the tone and personality that would come to define Sam for decades to come.
